LOUIE VITO 2014 WINTER X GAMES ASPEN SILVER MEDAL RUN

BIOGRAPHY

So a bio on myself… Well, I was born in Columbus, Ohio but grew up in Bellefontaine. I learned how to snowboard at this 300 vertical foot resort called Mad River Mountain which is only about five minutes from my house. I started out skiing and saw snowboarding one day and thought it was cool, so I tried it out and have been snowboarding ever since.

Since Ohio isn't known for their mountains, my public school had a hard time understanding why I would miss school to travel and snowboard, so my parents decided to let me go to Stratton Mountain School, which is a snowboard school in Vermont. I went there for the winter of 8th grade and all through high school. They let you snowboard in the morning and go to school in the afternoon and travel as long as your grades were alright.

As soon as I graduated I bought a house in Salt Lake City, and am still living there. It has what I think is the best snow, a city, good resorts, good sledding, easy to drive anywhere and close to an airport. Not to mention some of the best snowboarders, so there’s always a good crew to ride with.

When I'm not snowboarding or traveling I am normally just posted at my house relaxing. Sometimes I go skating or clean my house from the winter disaster I make inside, and just hang with the homies since they are always in and out all winter also.

If I wasn't snowboarding right now, I think I would probably be in school trying to get an education, so luckily snowboarding is working out. But I do hope to be snowboarding for a long time, just need to stay healthy and keep having fun with it. -Louie

CAREER HIGHLIGHTS
rev. 01/28/14

Louie Vito embodies style, power, skill and determination. Vito has won four of the past five U.S. Grand Prix Overall Championships, six X Games medals, two time Winter Dew Tour Cup Overall Champion and has made the podium at seventeen of the last twenty major contests since the Vancouver Winter Olympics. With his remarkable presence on the half pipe and endeavors off the mountain, he has cemented his place as one of the greatest snowboarders of his generation.

Vito is currently the reigning Winter Dew Tour Overall Champion and U.S. Grand Prix Overall Champion. When Vito is not landing arduous “double corks” and 1080s he is working on his endurance and strength training. Vito recently showed how important a strong body can be in snowboarding when he was selected for the prestigious ESPN Magazine’s “Body Issue.” Also, recently Vito was chosen to be the face of competitive snowboarding for Red Bull. Red Bull joins an impressive list of Vito’s sponsors which include Toyota, Nike, Sprint, Spy Optic, G-Shock Watches, Kicker Audio, Neff and Capix Helmets.

In addition to his impressive athletic prowess, Vito has found an equally exciting success off the hill. He won millions of American’s hearts as he competed on the mega-hit show “Dancing with the Stars.” Partnered with professional dancer, Chelsie Hightower, he trained for the Olympics on top of the notoriously grueling DWTS rehearsal schedule. Three months later, he represented the US at the 21st Olympic Games in Vancouver. After a solid performance, he finished in 5th place.

Vito hails from Bellefontaine, Ohio. He attended the respected Stratton Mountain School for snowboarding in Vermont during his middle school and high school years. Shortly thereafter at 17, he exploded on the professional snowboarding scene by completing a backside 1080 at the Australian Open - making him the first rider to successfully pull off the complex move in an Australian competition. This helped propel Vito to the top of the podium, winning his first of two consecutive championships there. Today, Vito is considered one of the most talented and popular snowboarders in the world by not only his fans, but also his peers.

Deeply committed to philanthropic causes, each year Vito holds the “Louie Vito Rail Jam” in his hometown at Mad River Mountain. The event is held to mentor young riders who are given the opportunity to compete without an entry fee and get outfitted in Vito’s premium gear. The Rail Jam supports local charity, St. Vincent De Paul, through money raised from auction items and food donated for the food bank by everyone who attends.

Vito currently resides in Sandy, Utah with his dog Gucci, a Pit Bull that he rescued. He enjoys skating, golfing, music and just plain chilling.
