Louie Vito, central Ohio native and international snowboard competitor will be at Mad River Mountain on December 29, 2007 hosting his annual snowboard rail competition for area boarders for the benefit of local charities. At 19, Vito has twice been crowned champion at the Australian Open of Snowboarding and finished fifth in the 2006 Winter “X” games. The Third Annual Louie Vito Rail Jam will showcase the talents of central Ohio snowboarders at Mad River Mountain’s snow terrain park in Valley Hi, Ohio. With over 190 competitors last year, the Rail Jam is easily the largest single day event for snowboarders in Central Ohio. Unique to the event is its entry fee of non-perishable canned or boxed goods which are donated directly to the St. Patrick Church’s St. Vincent DePaul food pantry in Bellefontaine, Ohio. Vito and his family also make a hefty contribution to the charity organization. Vito’s sponsors contribute a variety of equipment, snowboards, gear, and a car stereo system which are awarded to competitors including a grand prize of a one week Snowboard/Ski/Skate Camp at Windell’s in Mt. Hood, Oregon. It includes roundtrip airfare, meals, and lodging. The event takes place Saturday, December 29th at Mad River Mountain in Valley Hi, Ohio (http://www.skimadriver.com/) with registration beginning at 2:30PM and the event itself commencing at 5 PM. Contestants should bring a non-perishable canned or boxed food item or any paper products like paper towels, toilet paper, etc. The event is open to boarders of all ages but winners of the grand prize must be a minimum of ten years of age. Vito, impressed with the growth of the terrain park at Mad River Mountain and the quality of riding and skills of last year’s competitors and the continued growth of snowboarding in Ohio, is expecting great things and an even higher caliber of competition at this year’s event.
